How do I become a UMi Investor Hub investor?
Once you have decided to join, you can become a member in four simple steps:
Complete an Investor enquiry below.
On completion, one of our team will reach out to you to discuss your investment thesis, or dive straight into our events and deal opportunities!
-
Does it cost anything to become a member of the UMi Investor Hub?
We do not charge any fees for being a member of, or investing in businesses presented by, the UMi Investor Hub. However, some collaborators and/or funding organisations may charge their own fees for investing in a company that they introduce to the UMi Investor Hub. For example, a fund that invests alongside you in a business introduced to you via the Hub may charge fees to the start-up or investors. We therefore encourage investors to make their own efforts to understand any potential investment fees before making an investment in an applicant business.
-
I work for a fund – can we join?
Yes! If you work within an investment organisation, please complete our investor registration form below.
-
What events do you hold?
We host investment-focused events throughout the year for both SMEs and investors. These range from more general events, including panel and sector-focused events and innovation challenges, to investor-only events.
Investor-only events include pitch events, entrepreneur roadshows, investor educational workshops, and investor dinners. As a member of the UMi Investor Hub you will have access to all our general and investor-only events.
-
How committed do I have to be?
There is no minimum requirement to invest over the financial year. Minimum investment amounts – or ‘ticket sizes’ – are set by each start-up depending on their investment terms. Your level of activity in any start-ups you choose to invest in is between you and the start-up.
There is also no requirement to attend events throughout the year. That said, we encourage you to be as involved as possible so you can form connections with your fellow investors and benefit from our investor and start-up community.
-
Do I need to be an experienced investor?
You do not need to be an experienced investor to be part of our network. However, before receiving any business plans or opportunities, you must self-certify as either a Sophisticated Investor or High Net Worth Individual as defined by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA).
You can view the investor self-declaration form here.
For those new to investing, we work alongside partners to deliver a programme of educational investor workshops. We also connect you with more experienced members of our community through social and networking events. If there is a specific topic that you would like us to offer support on, please let us know.
-
Who is part of your network?
Our network consists of individual angel investors and representatives of funding organisations – whether accelerators, VCs, or other finance providers – who are all committed to facilitating investment into UK-based businesses.
Capital at risk warning
Investing in businesses is inherently risky. We do not promote or endorse any of the businesses introduced to you via Pitch Events or personal introductions; nor do we guarantee returns on your investment or success of the business. If the business fails, you accept that we cannot be held liable for any losses incurred. You may lose all of your invested capital.
You should not invest more money in the businesses introduced to you than you can afford to lose without altering your standard of living. Investments should be made as part of a well-diversified portfolio.
